RERA in NCR to continue with virtual hearings post Covid-19 .

New Delhi: Aggrieved NCR homebuyers won’t have to visit the Real Estate Regulatory Authority(RERA) office after the state authorities decided to continue virtual hearings even after the lockdown is lifted.

Both Haryana and UP RERA, which cover the maximum number of ongoing real estate projects in NCR towns, have opted for virtual hearings post Covid-19, while Delhi is launching a trial run before taking a decision.

The authorities got a consistent feedback that virtual hearing .

UP RERA has completed hearing of 700 cases since May 18, when it began the virtual hearing and has reserved 490 orders as on 3 June.

Most of the cases that RERA is hearing are related to compensation, possession, refund and delay in payment.

“There have been occasions when a homebuyer had to plan a journey a month before the hearing, had to make stay arrangements and spent a lot of money on hearing. With virtual hearing, he won’t have to spend anything. We will continue with i We will continue with it since it saves a lot of hassle for the homebuyers. If anyone wants to have one-on-one hearing, it will be ensured through video conferencing,” said Rajive Kumar, chairperson, UP RERA.

Around 100 complainants responded to a feedback exercise regarding the virtual court hearings by UP RERA and most of them stated that it was a positive step.

“A person from Mumbai told me that he couldn’t have come to Noida for hearing even on normal days, so he would prefer virtual hearings,” Kumar added.
